We run a number of training courses based on your interest and level of experience –

Our grooming trainer has over ten years experience, won Irish groomer of the year 2006 and 2008 and has represented Ireland in International grooming competitions and is City & Guild qualified.

Our marketing and business trainer set up MuttUgly after a ten year career in international marketing. She is also a professional lecturer and regularly teaches marketing, pr and advertising post graduate and diploma courses.

Think you might like to be a groomer? Loving animals isn’t enough; you need to be patient but firm, physically able to control dogs of all shapes and sizes, communicate with customers, and not be afraid of hard work.

Our Intensive day course will help you make an educated decision if this career is really for you.

This is a 4 week part-time course run on a Saturday from 10.15am to 5pm. You will learn the basic skills needed to groom your own or family or friends dogs. Topics covered include:

• Assessment of coat type and condition
• Brush out and de-matting techniques
• Paw, pad and nail treatments and ear and gland treatments
• Pre-bath clipping
• Washing, blasting and drying techniques
• Basic Styling and head cuts
• Advice on shampoos, equipment etc

Duration:: 4 weeks, Part-time Saturdays 10.15am to 5pm

This is a 6 week full-time intensive course. Students must first complete either a part-time or intensive day course before applying for the certificate course. It consists of two units: Practical grooming skills and grooming theory.

Practical grooming skills and grooming theory include:

• Assessment of coat type and condition
• Brush out and de-matting techniques
• Paw, pad and nail treatments and ear and gland treatments
• Pre-bath clipping and scissoring
• Washing, blasting and drying techniques
• Hand stripping
• Blending and thinning techniques
• Styling associated with all the popular salon breeds and kennel club breed standards
• Recognition of skin diseases & parasites and infectious diseases
• Behavioural techniques/dealing with difficult dogs
• Choosing the right equipment and maintenance of such

Duration: 6 weeks Intensive

We offer bespoke courses for groomers looking to refresh their skills or for students who want to pursue a professional career in grooming but due to family or work commitments they can’t attend a full-time course (we can only accept students that commit to a minimum of 3 days per week). Anyone looking for a course specifically suited to their needs should fist attend an intensive day course and discuss their options with the Trainer.
